Sarah Hutchison
Sarah brings 18 years of experience to her role at WWF-UK, where she has worked since 2001. Her career has followed a Latin American path, and she has experience in many of the region’s forest ecosystems.
Sarah’s passion for the Amazon began when, as an undergraduate, she spent a short spell studying the interactions between hummingbirds and the flowers they visit on the banks of the Amazon in Colombia. She remembers how her first walk into the forest took hours, because each step marked a discovery worthy of a "wow". Inspired by that experience she went on to study hummingbirds in the cloudforests at the very highest reaches of the Amazon basin in the Ecuadorian Andes. She made her home in Ecuador for seven years, lecturing at a local university and working with local communities to conserve their forests.
Sarah’s work for WWF-UK now focuses on forest conservation in the Amazon and Atlantic Forests of Brazil. Sarah is in constant contact with her colleagues in WWF-Brazil to ensure that the right support reaches them for their work on the ground – including the funds raised by Sky Rainforest Rescue.
Sarah says:
The Amazon might seem like a long way away, but I am more aware than ever of how important the Amazon is for all of us: we all benefit from the role it plays in our climate and by helping conserve forests there, we will help in the fight against climate change.
