Addressing drivers of deforestation

The majority of funds raised through Sky Rainforest Rescue are supporting our project in Acre, Brazil. Here we're working with subsistence farmers to help improve the way they manage their land  and also to support alternative ways of making a living, like improving markets for sustainable products.

But the Amazon as a whole suffers from many big pressures:

• Rising demand for beef (both in South America and globally), together with unsustainable agricultural practices is leading to huge losses of forest across the Amazon.  
• The rapid expansion of roads, dams and other infrastructure is disturbing pristine habitats and opening up untouched forest to logging, mining and agriculture.
• Increasing greenhouse gas emissions across the world will also have an impact on the Amazon as global temperatures rise and weather patterns change.

That’s why part of your donation is also contributing to WWF’s crucial work with governments, financing institutions and businesses to help address the major causes of deforestation across the Amazon.
